Synopsis Of A Clockwork Orange Essay Research free essay sample

Outline Of A Clockwork Orange Essay, Research Paper Outline of A Clockwork Orange In A Clockwork Orange, the chief character is that of a mildly immature kid of 15 who, along with his fellow friends, or # 8220 ; Droogs # 8221 ; , partake in eventides of Ultra-Violence. Ultra Violence consists of random whippings, larceny, devastation, and colza. The chief character, Alex, is the self-proclaimed leader of the battalion, and makes judgement on their actions pending on his temper. His Droogs finally find themselves under his direct regulation, following his every word, and make up ones mind to dispute his authorization. The three Droogs ( Dim, Georgie, and Pete ) articulation Alex on his runaway to a local # 8220 ; fat farm # 8221 ; to plunder the goods in this. Inside, Alex stumbles upon the proprietor of the resort, and after a length hassle with her, ends up giving her a blow to the caput with a instead big, ceramic reproduction of an vertical phallus. When he leaves the outer Gatess of the complex, Dim surprises him by thwacking a milk bottle against his face. His opposite numbers escape while small Alex is left hemorrhage and blinded to cover with the constabulary. Upon question of Alex, he discovers that the blow he delivered to the immature lady was a fatal 1. He is charged with first-degree slaying and sentenced to 14 old ages in prison. While at that place, he befriends the resident curate and becomes a assistant to his service. The curate, Alex shortly discovers, is a portion in a new signifier of intervention that is seeking to be implemented prisons to assist # 8220 ; remedy # 8221 ; inmates from perpetrating Acts of the Apostless of force. Through fortune and treatment with the higher functionaries in the prison, Alex is chose to be a guinea hog for the experiment, and is sent to go # 8220 ; inoculated from force # 8221 ; . The intervention consisted of Alex being strapped down to a chair in forepart of a film screen, holding electrodes attached to his caput, and being kept focused by little braces of clinchs used to disenable his ability to wink. This, along with the injection of an experimental serum, is monitored whilst he views films of UltraViolence. The serum leaves him vulnerable to his milieus, which are destructive movies, and induces such feelings of weakness, fright, and near-death palsy, similar to that of submerging. Alex shortly associates this feeling of distraught with the force, and with the background music being played throughout the full ordeal: Beethoven, Alex # 8217 ; s chief love. The concluding consequence is that whenever Alex is confronted with either violent Acts of the Apostless of any sort, or the sweet strings of Ludwig Van, he is shortly on his articulatio genuss in hurting and torment. When he is released, his parents abandon him. He meets up with a few members of his old pack that have turned into crooked bulls, and with their newfound power and durable loathe of Alex, they beat him much and leave him for dead, this of which brought on the illness that he was conditioned for. Stumbling in the dark for aid, he comes across a polite looking abode that looked mistily familiar. Finally, Alex realizes that he is in the presence of a former victim of his, but believes that the proprietor would non acknowledge him. To his discouragement, the writer did acknowledge him after hearing Alex sing a vocal in a really similar manner to the manner his aggressors did 2 old ages ago. After stealing a ataractic into Alex # 8217 ; s vino, Alex wakes up to happen himself in a locked room on the 2nd floor of an apartment tower block. Through the floor boards, Alex starts to hear the hateful sounds of Beethoven, and goes into his illness tantrums. No issues, No flights. His lone manner out is to leap out of the closed window and stop his life. He does merely that. Alex aftermaths in a infirmary. The writer was jailed for attempted slaying, and the authorities functionaries that started the plan were ridiculed and harassed out of their places. Alex finds himself broken and injury, but his ideas are that of the Ultra-Violence. Alex was cured and ready to populate once more. Aspects of Psychology In A Clockwork Orange, Alex is portrayed as two different people populating within the same organic structure. As a arch kid ravishing the universe, he every bit seen as crud. His actions and blazing discourtesy towards society are categorized under that of the common street rotter. However, when he is off from his eventide garb, he is that of suave. His vesture, his words, his overall attitude. The differentiation between the two is triggered by the soft sounds of Ludwig Van Beethoven. The psychological science of Alex would be that of a consecutive slayer. He is a authoritative illustration of Darwin # 8217 ; s, Skinner # 8217 ; s, Freud # 8217 ; s, Erikson # 8217 ; s, and Adler # 8217 ; s major theories. Alex is non genuinely close to any other individual that he comes in contact with in the movie. He is utilizing his parents for a topographic point to populate, and they show no emotion towards him, good or bad. His love for his pack is non that of a male/male platonic relationship that is common in brotherhoods. It is that of a matrimony of similar involvements, when the parties involved loathe each other personally. Society is against him for all his person wickednesss. The lone life animal that he shows love for is his serpent. Darwin # 8217 ; s theory of adult male holding the same thought procedure # 8217 ; s of animate beings holds an interesting bearing upon Alex. Alex # 8217 ; s love is for his serpent. Generally love is defined by an apprehension, or a intimacy between two points. The serpent is represented by many things in the natural universe today. Freud # 8217 ; s analyzation for the male intimacy to the serpent is that the individual involved is oppugning his gender, or his love towards the female gender. Alex keeps coming back to his serpent after his darks on the town, and his first concern with life after he is paroled is his beloved serpent. This, combined with the fact that keeps his serpent in a thorax under his bed ( the most accepted sexual point in an mean family ) , show # 8217 ; s his insufficiencies with his sexual public presentation and his phallus. He feels that by maintaining in contact with his serpent, he will be more of a adult male so he already is, therefore doing him more non iceable and attractive towards the opposite sex. Therefore, Alex doesn’t see his serpent as an equal, but as a greater being capable of going a close friend and a security cover. The serpent is besides used in many different civilizations to stand for the immorality and hatred that adult male sort dwells on. When something evil happens, civilization blames all of it # 8217 ; s frights upon the serpent, the graven image of fright. The love that Alex feels for his serpent could fall under the love of understanding. With this love, Alex feels that he can associate to his serpent, and to what society views the serpent as. Alex finds the serpent to stand for wickedness and the hatred that spawned the universe as we know it today. In Genesis, the snake convinced Eves to disobey her God and to eat an apple from the tree of life, therefore doing adult male to non be ageless, and for adult female # 8217 ; s childbearing to be complex and painful. In Christianity, the serpent is the conceiver of wickedness. Alex feels that he is the modern bringer of wickedness. Alex frequently finds himself in many state of affairss where he is surrounded with scenes of in writing sex or some kind of phallic mention. After a dark of Ultra-Violence, Alex and his droogs find themselves loosen uping at the Karova Milk Bar imbibing Milk Plus, Milk Plus Dreminol, and Milk Plus Synthemesc. The saloon is adorned with images and sculptures of bare adult females in assorted places of sexual brushs, all of which with overdone colourss and lengths of downy hair. This corresponds with Harlow # 8217 ; s experiments with monkey babes happening comfort in soft points in times of hurt. Alex finds comfort in the downy hair and softness of the environment of the saloon. When he has committed an act of straitening nature, be it force or mundane normal happenings, he retreats to Karova to convey him a feeling of heat, satisfaction, and justification of his old workss. This signifier of relaxation is common from kids of broken places. Freud believes that the self-image within a adult male is shaped in the first 5 old ages of life. With the response that Alex # 8217 ; s parents give to him in his home-life, it is obvious that they did non offer much love to the turning kid. By Freud # 8217 ; s belief, if the kid does non have the proper love from a female parent that it should, it will happen other agencies to replace the comfort that a female parent provides. Alex # 8217 ; s comfort was the force and the pleasance brought from a dark completed. There is no mention in the film about Alex # 8217 ; s parents being his natural born parents, or if one of them died and remarried. My beliefs are that Alex # 8217 ; s natural Born female parent was beaten and finally left his male parent. Alex was in the center of this action, and like Bandura # 8217 ; s findings, the kid imitates the action that he views and takes it as natural, therefore utilizing it in mundane life. Alex # 8217 ; s aggression upon society are genuinely the natural impulses and feelings that he experiences, therefore doing him normal, being unaware of the wrongs that his force induces. In a Freudian facet, this could explicate a huge bulk of his aggression that he displays. His actions construe his hatred towards his male parent for being the ground he lacks a parental security cover. As quoted in one of the first few scenes: # 8220 ; # 8230 ; and in the muss of wobbly chaos the bibulous old malchek had found himself lying in, he had managed to be able to force out an ugly lyric or two. Now, the one thing that I truly hate in the universe is a bibulous old malchek singing out the vocals of his male parent with an occasional # 8220 ; blurp, blurp # 8221 ; in between. # 8221 ; , this shows his loath for 1 ) Disrespect for music. 2 ) Drunkards, and 3 ) Work force in his male parents image. The music was his redemption, for it could snarl him in and out of his dementedness. The music was used in a pseudo-Pavlov experiment to extinguish Alex # 8217 ; s love for force. In the experiment, Alex ingested a serum that would bring on a deathly palsy. While the serum was taking consequence, he was bombarded with sights of force and the sweet sounds of Ludwig Van Beethoven, both go forthing an feeling in his mind, associating the illness to the sights and sounds that he was subjected to. In Pavlov # 8217 ; s experiments, his major end was to turn out that he could develop a topic to give a learned response with no support. This was accomplished by developing a Canis familiaris to salivate when he heard a bell ring. The Canis familiaris was usage to the sound of a pealing bell before having his nutrient. Finally, Pavlov removed the nutrient from the experiment, but the Canis familiaris retained the learned response of salivating whenever he heard the bell ring. Thus a learned response without positive nor negative support. Alex # 8217 ; s conditioned response was to fall to the # 8220 ; sickness # 8221 ; when subjected to Beethoven. With the illness being the conditioned response, there is no Reinforcement because the sounds of Beethoven were non knowing, therefore non needing support. However, Alex # 8217 ; s injury could besides be referred to as a Skinner attack to intervention. Skinner # 8217 ; s theory was that one could accomplish a conditioned response by giving the capable positive or negative support. In his experiments, a mouse was put in a coop with nil but a pressable button and a visible radiation. When the saloon was depressed, the visible radiation flashed and nutrient was delivered into the coop. If the mouse were dropped into a similar coop, it would be safe to presume that it would retain the reaction to hit a saloon and receive nutrient. The learned response was to hit the saloon when hungry. The support was the nutrient that was provided by finishing the response. In Alex # 8217 ; s instance, the support would be the metal satisfaction of non traveling through with his violent demands when he is subjected to violent milieus. In decision, the theories used as a footing behind Stanley Kubrik # 8217 ; s A Clockwork Orange, resemble that of the theories that came from the greater minds of modern clip. Alex, the guinea hog in this narrative, is a authoritative illustration of many psychologist # 8217 ; s instance surveies, and could be analyzed otherwise from each.

Journal Hospitality And Tourism Management -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Journal Hospitality And Tourism Management? Answer: Introduction Marketing play an important role for the contemporary business organizations in surviving in the current competitive business scenario. In addition, having effective marketing strategies also helps in cutting off the intensity of the competition and helps to stay ahead over the competitors (Gronroos and Gummerus 2014). However, prior to the implementation of the marketing strategies, it is important to determine the current market position along with the current market segments. In accordance to that, marketing strategies should be implemented. There are various models and concepts related to the marketing can be used in order to determine the market needs and requirement and to implement effective strategies. Emirates airlines is one of the leading airliners in the world based in Dubai, Abu Dhabi. Emirates are the largest airliner in the entire Middle Eastern region in terms of the passenger traffic and flow of the airlines. In terms of the passenger traffic, Emirates are currently standing at rank four globally (Emirates global 2018). Currently, they are having their presence in more than 80 countries and fly in all the major cities around the world. However, in the recent time, they are facing huge competition in the market due to the presence of various global brands and established players. In addition, other airliners from the Middle-eastern regions such as Ethihad airways and Qatar Airways are posing serious threat for Emirates airlines. Therefore, it is important for Emirates airlines to effectively determine the current market position in regard to the competition. In accordance to that, they should identify the marketing objectives along with the target market. This report will discuss about the current position of Emirates in the market. In addition, this report will also discuss about the ideal marketing mix of Emirates, which will help them in having better position in the market. Current market position of Emirates The first step of determining the marketing strategies of Emirates is to identify the current market position of them. In this case, BCG matrix will be used in order to identify the exact area where Emirates is currently standing in front of their competitors (Rudnicki and Vagner 2014). The above diagram is showing that Emirates airline is belonging in stars where none of their competitors are present. This denotes that the current market share as well as the current market growth rate is favorable for them. Thus, Emirates airline should design their marketing strategies in such way that it will help them to attract new customers as well as retaining the existing ones. On the other hand, it is also identified from the above diagram that Lufthansa can be considered as one of the key competitors. This is due to the reason that Lufthansa is currently standing in the Cash cow element, which denotes that they are the market leader but not having the growth rate as Emirates airline. Moreover, Qatar airways are having less market share than Emirates but they are also having growth rate. Thus, it can be concluded that currently the growth rate of Emirates is favorable but they not in the top position in terms of market share. The marketing strategies should be implemented i n order to retain the existing customers. Brand positioning map Brand positioning map will be used in order to identify the current positioning of the brand of Emirates and how they are being perceived in the market against their competitors. The above brand positioning map shows that Emirates Airline is being positioned as high cost and high quality airliner. On the other hand, it is also being seen that Ethihad is having higher price structure compared to Emirates with having higher service quality. Moreover, Qatar airways are having similar service quality with Emirates but they are having lower price point compared to the other two. Air Asia and Ryan air is having much lower price points compared to others but they cannot pose much challenges to the Emirates due to the reason that Emirates are being positioned as long haul and quality airline over the budget carriers and show haul flights of Ryan air and Air Asia (David 2013). Thus, from the above map, it can be concluded that the key competitors for Emirates are the Qatar airways and Ethihad airways. Moreover, due to the fact that all these players are being based in the Middle Eastern regions, the competition is much higher. Identification of the marketing objectives The above sections have discussed about the current market position of Emirate airline over their competitors. Thus, the ideal marketing objectives of them in accordance to their current market position will be discussed in the following sections (Lee, Kozlenkova and Palmatier 2015). The objectives will be discussed for 3 years period. The first marketing objective should be the overtaking Lufthansa in terms of the market share. This is due to the reason that the core objective for any marketing strategy is to increase the customer traffic. Thus, according to the above analysis, Lufthansa is way ahead of them in terms of the current market share. Hence, the marketing objective for the next three years should be overtaking them. The next objective will be increase the brand position in the mind of the customers in terms of the service quality. This is due to the reason that, in the above analysis it is seen that Emirates is trailing behind Ethihad in terms of service quality (Hussain, Al Nasser and Hussain 2015). Thus, the marketing strategies should be designed and implemented in such a way that the diverse service provided by Emirates should get properly communicated to the target customers. The last marketing objective of them should be entering in the untapped regions. There are still various potential regions where Emirates airline is not having their presence. Thus, in the next three years, they should initiate their marketing strategies in order to tap the new markets. Identification of the target segments Emirates being one of the largest airliners in the world are having diverse and vast customer segments. This report will identify three key customer segments for them and will discuss the strategies that can be initiated in order to enhance the loyalty of the respective customer segments (Cross, Belich and Rudelius 2015). Segmentation process will be done in terms of only usage and behavioral characteristics of the customers. This is due to the fact that gender segmentation and age segmentation are not applicable in the case of Emirates. Corporate flyers Corporate or professional passengers comprise of the major portion of the revenue of Emirates. This is due to the reason that professional people tends to travel more for their job or business. These passengers travel single in majority of the cases and are frequent flyers. Thus, they should have the loyalty with the airliner in order to retain the frequent flyers. One of the key strategies that can be initiated by the Emirates airline in enhancing the loyalty of this segment is to promote them frequent flyers list (Ashton 2015). This will enable the corporate passengers to have huge array of services and discounts along with other offers year around. Passengers in the frequent flyers list will be able to have certain fixed discount every time they book tickets with Emirates. Therefore, if the corporate flyers are being given fixed discounts over the standard charge then it is likely that they will prefer Emirates over their competitors (Meyer-Waarden 2013). Another strategy that can also be initiated is the pick and drop facility to and from the airport as a complimentary service. Majority of the corporate travelers travels on very tight schedule. Thus, if Emirates provide them pick and drop facilities, then it will be easier for the travelers to reach to their destination in minimal time and comfortably. It will motivate the travelers to book their flight with Emirates in further time also. Seasonal tourists Apart from the corporate flyers, there are seasonal tourists who mainly travel in groups with friends and families for only tour purpose. Among them there are number of frequent flyers also who travels in groups for at least once in year. The key advantage that is being gained by Emirates from this segment is the bulk bookings. One of the key strategies that can be initiated by Emirates in enhancing the loyalty of this segment is to provide them guidance of their tour destinations (Terblanche 2015). In majority of the cases, tourists are having less or no idea about their destination as they are visiting for the first time. Thus, Emirates can provide the guidance service to this customer segment about how and where they should visit. It will make the tourist feel more comfortable prior to the visiting to their destination. Another strategy that can be initiated by Emirates in enhancing the loyalty of the seasonal tourists is the seasonal bonus and offers. Festivals such as Christmas witnesses huge traffic in tourism. Hence, providence of added bonuses and discounts will further attract the existing customers to aging book their flights with Emirates. During the seasonal festivals, special vouchers, goodies and wishes can be given to the travelers as part of the customer relationship management. This will ensure the high brand recall among the existing customers. First time flyers Out of the all the customer traffic of Emirates airline, there is huge portion of first time flyers also. These first time flyers are having both corporate and group tourist also. However, the strategies in relation to the first time flyers should be more customized and different from the existing strategies. The key reason for this is that first time flyers are not having any idea about the international flights and the norms and regulations to be followed in the airports. There is always a sense of insecurity works with this segment. Thus, Emirates should have support facilities for the first time flyers along with having some sort for added engagement activities for the single flyers also (Chen and Hu 2013). This will made the travelers feel easy and comfortable. It will help in creating positive image among the first time flyers and the first impression will be long lasting and will help in enhanced loyalty of them. Recommended marketing mix The current market position as well as the target segments for the next three years is being identified in the previous sections. Thus, in accordance to that, ideal elements of marketing mix will be discussed, which will further help to solidify the brand in the global market (Mintz and Currim 2013). Product In the case of the Emirates airline, the product is their airline service. It is recommended that they should have different types of aircraft to suit the different needs of the customers. For instance, they can use the narrow body aircraft for the shorter distance, which will also cost low for the customers (Kuo and Jou 2014). On the other hand, wide body aircraft should be used for the long distance travel. This is due to the reason that in the recent time, concept of city breaks are becoming popular and having shorter flights with narrow body aircraft will suit the need and affordability of the customers. Moreover, providing wide body aircraft in the long distance will offer comfortable flight for the customers. Thus, service variations should be there in order to meet the varied customer requirements. It is also being suggested that Emirates should have added facilities in their aircraft such as internet facilities, personal entertainment facilities and different cuisines (Wu and Cheng 2013). This will further create satisfaction among the customers and will help them to create distinctive image among the market. Price In order to stay ahead in the competition, cost leadership should be promoted by Emirates. Though the target customer segments of them are mainly from the top and middle of the pyramid but having cost leadership will help them in increasing their profitability ratio (Kaliappen and Hilman 2013). It is evaluated in the earlier sections that price of Qatar airways are less compared to Emirates even delivering same service quality (Chung and Petrick 2013). Thus, achieving the cost leadership will help Emirates to beat Qatar in terms of the pricing also. The more will be the cost leadership, the more capital will be with them to invest in providing added facilities to the customers. Hence, the brand value will get enhanced in terms of service quality. Place The more locations will be covered by Emirates, the more exposure they will get in the market in terms of their brand value (Buil, De Chernatony and Martinez 2013). Thus, it is recommended that Emirates should enter the markets where they are currently not operating. This will increase their passenger traffic as well as their brand value. In addition, facilities such as online ticketing system and web check-in will help in creating positive brand image among the passengers (Skeen et al. 2015). Thus, it is recommended that Emirates should use their place element in enhancing the convenience of the passengers in order to create positive image in the global market. Promotion Promotion is the most important element in the marketing mix, which will be the most effective in enhancing the brand value of Emirates (Severi and Ling 2013). This is due to the reason that, promotion activities will determine whether the service provided by Emirates is being effectively communicated to the customers or not. It is recommended that Emirates should involve Omni channel marketing strategies in order to reach out to maximum number of customers around the world. Having online marketing mediums will help in reaching to the customers from the regions where Emirates are not having market presence (Balakrishnan, Dahnil and Yi 2014). On the other hand, offline promotional activities such as in flight activities and airport promotions will help in drawing more passengers and to communicate the brand value to the potential customers. Ansoff matrix Ansoff matrix is having four key components including market development, market penetration, product development and diversification. In the case of Emirates, it is recommended that they should opt for marketing penetration and market development in to retain the existing customer base along with tapping the new markets. These two strategies will help them in having dual benefits (Malysheva et al. 2016). Market development strategy will help in increasing the market share globally and market penetration strategy will help to retain the existing customers and market. Conclusion Thus from the above discussion, it can be concluded that the key challenge facing by Emirates airline in the recent time is the increase in the competition in the global market. BCG matrix and brand positioning map is being used in order to determine the current market position of Emirates as against its competitors. In accordance to that, this report discussed about the target segments that should be considered in order to increase the market share in the next three years. Various strategies are being discussed in order to increase the loyalty of the identified target segments. In addition, an ideal marketing mix is being discussed in this report, which will help Emirates to enhance their market share as well as brand value. Reference Ashton, D., 2015. Why Are Police Officers More Dangerous Than Airpla Essays

Why Are Police Officers More Dangerous Than Airplanes? [pic] Pagan Kennedy AUG. 11, 2017 382 Photo [pic] CreditAngie Wang "It's 2:30 in the morning and my phone rings. My daughter says, 'Daddy, you need to come to the hospital,' " Michael Bell told me, of the moment in 2004 when he learned that his son had been shot by a police officer in their hometown, Kenosha, Wis. Twenty-one-year-old Michael Bell Jr. died that night from a bullet wound to the head. In the nightmarish hours that followed, his father expected independent investigators to arrive on the scene and find out what had gone wrong. A former Air Force pilot, he knew that when an accident happened in the military, a forensic team performed an exhaustive review. Above all, he wanted to make sure that if a mistake had contributed to his son's death, it would be identified and fixed, so that nothing like it would happen again. This investigative method is standard in aviation. When a plane crashes, experts pick through the wreckage to determine the cause and make recommendations to prevent the next accident. The process is so effective that for the last several years, the death rate from crashes of American commercial planes has been zero. But no comparable system exists in policing - and that may help explain why you are far more likely to die at the hands of a cop than to perish in an plane crash. Police officers in the United States now kill about 1,000 people and wound more than 50,000every year. Of course, no independent team arrived to perform a forensic analysis of the younger Mr. Bell's death. Instead, the Kenosha police department spent two days investigating its own officers before ruling that the shooting was justified. The police officers claimed that Michael had "failed to make a complete stop" (and tests later showed Michael had been drinking), so they followed him to his house and parked behind him. According to the police, the young man had lunged at them and tried to pull a gun out of an officer's holster. Photo [pic] The family of Michael Bell (in picture), a young man who died in police custody, recount the story of how their son died at a Citizen's Tribunal in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. CreditNarayan Mahon for The New York Times Mr. Bell hired his own investigators. They contend that it all began with faulty equipment: Officer Erich Strausbaugh's holster caught on a cable dangling from one of the cars' side-view mirrors, so that when he tackled Michael, he felt a powerful tug on his belt. Assuming that the young man had grabbed for his weapon, he called out to his partners, "He's got my gun." Michael's mother and sister, who were watching nearby, yelled that Michael did not have the gun. But it was too late. Continue reading the main story "My blond-haired boy was killed," Mr. Bell said, "and then blamed." He continued, "If that was how it was for my family, then I knew that the families of African-American, Hispanic or Asian boys didn't stand a chance. That was one of reasons I started raising a ruckus." Police violence is tangled up with racism and systemic injustice. We desperately need to do more to address that, foremost by shoring up the criminal-justice system so that it holds police officers accountable when they kill. But it's also true that deadly mistakes are going to happen when police officers engage in millions of potentially dangerous procedures a year. What aviation teaches us is that it should be possible to "accident proof" police work, if only we are willing to admit when mistakes are made. Mr. Bell, in fact, does not blame Officer Strausbaugh, who committed suicide several years later. "The officer made an honest mistake," he said; the problem is that "the police department covered it up." In 2010, the family received some vindication when the City of Kenosha agreed to pay $1.75 million to settle a wrongful-death lawsuit. Afterward, Mr. Bell paid to erect billboards asking: "When police kill, should they judge themselves?" In 2014, Wisconsin passed a law requiring independent investigations of police actions that result in a civilian death. Mr. Bell is still pushing for reform, touring Wisconsin with graphs and charts

Forcing Democracy essays

Forcing Democracy essays When a country is ruled by the people it is said to be a democracy. Within a democracy, the people elect officials, and in return these officials will represent them on important issues. Regardless of their race, gender or religion, this system of government allows every persons voice to be heard. The United States strongly supports democracy around the world for many reasons, but is it their obligation to instill such a government in every country? Helping countries who are struggling to become a democracy is fine; to force those who oppose it, by means of war, is just wrong. Besides defense, the United States should not go to war. As far as going to war for humanitarian purposes, is nothing but a sorry excuse. When did our nation become a baby sitter for other countries? That sort of job should be left for the United Nations to handle. Even then, every possible measure should be taken to keep peace before relying on war to solve situations. History has proven alternatives to war such as treaties, oral agreements, and peaceful political actions. If our country is in the brink of an attack, then by all means we should retaliate, but if there is a way to solve situations in a peaceful matter then that should be our priority. War for any other reason is a politicians sign of weakness and incompetence. Going to war to enforce democracy in other countries is not worth the blood shed of our American troops. As it is, Operation Iraq has totaled more fatalities of our soldiers than any other war after Vietnam. This is a prime example of a meaningless war that has led to a high number of unnecessary deaths. Loss of our soldiers lives for such reason would put the United States at risk because no one wants to die for a lost cause. Because of this, troops will stop reenlisting and citizens would cease from joining the forces. This could eventually lead to a military draft because of the shortage in ...

Prime Minister of Canada - Role and Duties

Prime Minister of Canada - Role and Duties The prime minister is the head of government in Canada. The Canadian prime minister is usually the leader of the political party that wins the most seats in the House of Commons in a general election. The prime minister may lead a majority government or a minority government. Although the role of prime minister in Canada is not defined by any law or constitutional document, it is the most powerful role in Canadian politics. Head of Government The prime minister of Canada is head of the executive branch of the Canadian federal government. The Canadian prime minister provides leadership and direction to the government with the support of a cabinet, which the prime minister chooses, the prime ministers office (PMO) of political staff, and the privy council office (PCO) of non-partisan public servants who provide a focal point for the Canadian public service. Cabinet Chair The cabinet is a key decision-making forum in the Canadian government. The Canadian prime minister decides on the size of the cabinet and selects cabinet ministers- usually members of parliament and sometimes a senator- and assigns their department responsibilities and portfolios. In selecting the members of the cabinet, the prime minister tries to balance Canadian regional interests, ensures an appropriate mix of anglophones and francophones, and makes sure that women and ethnic minorities are represented. The prime minister chairs cabinet meetings and controls the agenda. Party Leader Since the source of power of the prime minister in Canada is as leader of a federal political party, the prime minister must always be sensitive to the national and regional executives of their party as well as to the grassroots supporters of the party. As party leader, the prime minister must be able to explain party policies and programs  and be able to put them into action. In elections in Canada, voters increasingly define the policies of a political party by their perceptions of the party leader, so the prime minister must continuously attempt to appeal to a large number of voters. Political appointments- such as senators, judges, ambassadors, commission members and crown corporation executives- are often used by Canadian prime ministers to reward the party faithful. Role in Parliament The prime minister and cabinet members have seats in Parliament (with occasional exceptions) and lead and direct Parliaments activities and its legislative agenda. The prime minister in Canada must retain the confidence of the majority of the members in the House of Commons or resign and seek a dissolution of Parliament to have the conflict resolved by an election. Due to time constraints, the prime minister participates in only the most important debates in the House of Commons, such as the debate on the Speech from the Throne and debates on contentious legislation. However, the prime minister does defend the government and its policies in the daily Question Period in the House of Commons. The Canadian prime minister must also fulfill their responsibilities as a member of Parliament in representing the constituents in their riding, or electoral district.
